Who am I you ask? I guess I have a variety of roles that I assume in my daily life. Here are a few of them:

Ryan the Entrepreneur…

I have always wanted to build companies. My goal over the next few years is to build several venture-backed high tech start-ups. I’m working on something interesting right now to do with online knowledge sharing… expect to hear more when we get closer to launch :)

I always like meeting fellow entrepreneurs and try to attend the many great events here in the valley when I can. I send out a weekly email newsletter - the BASES digest - listing my pick of the best entrepreneurial events for the upcoming week. I’m also on the executive committee of the MIT/Stanford Venture Lab.

Ryan the Manager…

I am the Manager of Strategic Partnerships for a high tech start-up in the network security space. I’ve been with the company since the beginning - it’s been an exciting ride and it’s far from over. I’ve held various roles in engineering, product management, marketing and business development (I like to move around :)

Ryan the Musician…

Formerly I was the lead singer and guitarist for a local hard rock band After Effect. I formed this band with three friends at the end of 2003, and we played a lot of fun shows in the 3 years we were together. As is often the case our priorities changed and we found we didn’t have the time to focus on rehearsals and booking shows, so we called it quits. I still like playing my Martin acoustic whenever I can find the time, and I may venture out again and do some solo gigs ’someday’…

Ryan the Aviator…

I’ve always had the dream to fly - I even considered it briefly as a possible career path, but decided there wasn’t enough money in it :) So I decided I’d simply take it up as a hobby - a hobby that ironically devours most of the money I earn anyway. I am currently a certified private pilot for single-engine land aircraft - over time I plan to add additional ratings. Flying truly is one of the most exhilarating experiences I can imagine.

Ryan the Son, Brother and Friend…

In whatever spare time I have I make sure I spend it catching up with family and friends - whether it’s video conferencing with my family back in Sydney, Australia, or partying with the many friends I’ve made here in the San Francisco Bay Area. So that’s me in a nutshell. Feel free to drop me a line sometime:

A note about Facebook: Please don’t just add me as a friend if we’ve never met.  I’m not a Facebook snob - but please at least send me a message first introducing yourself :)
